Google Ads Expert With 20+ Years of Experience

Work with a Google Insider Who Helped Build the Playbook

I joined Google in 2002 as part of their first advertiser optimization team. I trained hundreds of Google's employees, worked with major agency partners, and helped develop and launch the Google Ads certification exams that advertising professionals take today. I left Google in 2009, wrote a book on Google Ads and have been running ads for businesses ever since. Several of my clients from that first year are still with me.

Google Ads Has Changed. Expertise Matters More Than Ever.

Strong Google Ads management starts with understanding what's already working, preserving the value of your historical data, and identifying the opportunities that can move performance forward.

Rather than making changes for the sake of change, I take a thoughtful approach to optimization, building on what your account has already learned while looking for opportunities to improve performance.

Campaign Structure
  • Is the account structured around Google's automation or your business goals?

  • Should older ad group structures be retired and campaigns consolidated to take advantage of smart bidding?

  • Are new campaign types and settings, such as PMax and AI Max worth testing?

Budget Allocation
  • Are your highest-value opportunities getting enough budget?

  • Should you spend PPC funds on a brand campaign?

  • How can budgets be allocated year-round to take advantage of seasonality?

Bidding Strategy
  • Is your current bidding strategy aligned with where your account is in its lifecycle?
  • Are your Target CPA or ROAS targets realistic, or are they constraining performance?

  • How should targets change across seasons and promotional periods?

Search Terms & Audience Signals
  • Are your match types and negative keywords generating the right traffic?

  • Are your audience signals helping automation find the right customers?

  • Where is spend going that you haven't reviewed recently?

Automation
  • Which recommendations should you implement, test, or ignore?

  • How can you course correct when automation goes awry?

Incrementality & Attribution
  • Are your reported conversions telling the whole story?

  • Tracking breaks more than most advertisers realize. I audit conversion setup, navigate privacy restrictions, and make sure your data is actually reliable.

  • Where are the gaps between what Google reports and what your CRM or backend actually shows?

What Makes a Google Ads Expert

There's no shortage of people calling themselves a Google Ads expert. What most of them have in common is that they learned the platform from the outside. I learned it from the inside as a founding member of Google's original Ads optimization team.

AI Needs Direction

Google Ads can automate bidding, targeting, creative, and campaign management. The platforms works best when someone with deep experience knows which controls to override, which signals to trust, and when automation needs a human correction or new signals to be added.

Strategy Still Matters

Automation doesn't replace strategy. Someone still needs to decide what to test, what to change, and what not to change. Knowing which levers matter and why is what separates a Google Ads expert from someone who manages the interface and checks off their monthly tasks.

A Google Ads Partner

I work with clients as a partner. That means flagging issues before you ask, pushing back when something won't work, and knowing your business well enough to anticipate what's coming, such as slow seasons, competitive shifts, or budget decisions.
